CAPPADOCCIA - GOREME NATIONAL PARK
Göreme
National Park occupies an area of 40 km between Nevşehir Province
and Avanos and Ürgüp Districts in Central Anatolia. Göreme valley is
a plateau, located on a formerly active volcanic area and was
included on UNESCO World Heritage List on 6 December 1985 following
the “Cappadoccia Preservation Project” realized by the High
Commission of Monuments on 10 July 1976.
The
region, which inhabited numerous civilizations from 4th
until 13th century, has a rather harmonious rural
appearance. Especially, the conical shaped rocks, known as “Fairy
Chimneys”, and rock surfaces were carved and used for various
purposes.
