ISHAK PASHA PALACE
Ishak Pasha Palace was built as a complex of buildings adjacent to a
mosque. It is known as the most famous of the palaces after the
Topkapı Palace in Istanbul and was built during the last period of
the Ottoman Empire.
The
palace, located on a hillside 5 km east of Doğubayazıt District, is
the last large monumental structure of the Ottoman Empire in the
“Lale Devri” period. It is one of the most distinguished and
magnificent examples of the 18th century Ottoman
architecture and is highly prestigious in terms of art history.
According to the inscription at the Harem Section, the palace was
built in 1784, which corresponds to the year 1199 in Islamic
calendar.
The
palace displays features of the Ottoman, Persian and Seljukian
architectural styles. It was built in 1685 by Ishak Pasha the Second
of Çıldıroğulları and Çolak Abdi Pasha and took its final appearance
in 1784. The building occupies an area of approximately 115x50m.
With its reliefs and decorations, the portal on the eastern facade
of the palace, which is built of carved stone blocks, reflects the
characteristics of the Seljuk art.
The
walls of the palace are decorated with couplets and verses from the
Koran in the decorative examples of the Turkish Calligraphy art.
